Luke Somers Among Ensemble Singing at Venezuelan Schools
Luke Somers, the son of Paul and Janet Somers of Westfield and a freshman at Haverford College, is one of 28 students in The Chamber Singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges visiting Venezuela to give a series of chamber vocal performances with the Select

A bass with the group, Luke left for Venezuela on May 18 to perform a weeklong series of concerts at several universities and secondary schools in Caracas.
The joint choral group will also work with members of a special choral program for "barrio," or inner- city, Caracas children.
The Haverford and Bryn Mawr chamber singers will be led jointly by their director, Thomas Lloyd, and Select Choir Director Maria Guinand, a leading international authority on Latin American choral music.
The program will include works by North American and Latin American composers, and will reflect the varied musical traditions of both cultures.
For three nights during his trip, Luke will stay with a host family in Caracas.
Located 10 miles west of Philadelphia in Haverford, Pennsylvania, Haverford College shares a cooperative relationship with nearby Bryn Mawr College which enables students from both colleges to pursue a major at either campus, and also participate in activities offered by either institution.
Gerrie Russell Joins Weichert, Realtors Office in Westfield
James M. Weichert, President, has announced that Gerrie Russell has joined the Westfield Office of Weichert, Realtors as a Sales Associate.
A newly- licensed real estate professional, Ms. Russell previously was employed by Oxford Health Plans in Edison. She holds a bachelor's degree from the School of Human Resources at the University of Delaware.

Dr. Brian Slomovitz Earns Doctor of Medicine Degree
Brian Matthew Slomovitz of Westfield was awarded his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) - New Jersey Medical School, during commencement exercises held May 20.
Dr. Slomovitz, a 1988 graduate of Westfield High School, earned a
Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston in 1992, and a Master of Science Degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D. C. in 1993.
He will continue his medical education as an Obstetrics and Gynecology resident at The New York Hospital - Cornell University Medical Center in New York City. At UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School, Dr. Slomovitz was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and Sigma Xi (the Scientific Research Society).
He was the recipient of several scholarships during his time in medical school, including the Union County Medical Society Alliance medical student scholarship.
His research interests include critical care medicine and gynecologic oncology, and he has two articles and three abstracts published in peer review medical journals.
In addition, Dr. Slomovitz has been involved in many community activities in Newark and its surrounding communities.
The graduate is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Jay S. Slomovitz of Westfield.
Elizabeth Rankin Geitz To Sign Copies of Book

New Jersey author Elizabeth Rankin Geitz will be available to discuss and sign copies of her latest book, "Soul Satisfaction," on Saturday, June 27, from noon until 2 p. m. at The Town Book Store, located at 255 East Broad Street in Westfield.
In this new book of meditation, Ms. Geitz rediscovers the feminine side of the Scriptures and holds it up as a source of strength for women everywhere.
