WHS Class of 1948 Holds 50th Reunion Weekend
WESTFIELD — On October 10, 95 classmates, plus 55 spouses and friends of the Westfield Senior High School Class of 1948, gathered to celebrate the class’s 50th reunion at Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains.
Twelve of the classmates gathered the day before at the country club for a luncheon and 18 holes of golf. That evening, class members had dinner at the Steak & Ale restaurant in Mountainside.
Saturday evening’s reunion featured a buffet dinner, as disk jockey Larry Kasar entertained the alumni with popular songs from the 1940s “big band” era. While renewing old friendships, those in attendance also took time out to remember 51 deceased class members.
Upon registering on Saturday evening, class members received
identification badges with each person’s 1948 Weathervane yearbook picture. They also were presented with a booklet containing biographies and sketches, along with color pictures, of their lives since graduation.
A highlight of the evening was the gift presentation to Letty Sinclair Hudak, Reunion Committee Chairwoman.
The day after the reunion, the classmates attended a brunch held at the Westfield Community Players headquarters on North Avenue in Westfield.
