The Board of Education of the Town of Westfield in the County of Union, New Jersey is authorized (a) to provide for the construction of additions and renovations at the McKinley ElementarySchool,theFranklin ElementarySchoolandthe WilsonElementarySchool,the construction of renovations at the Westfield High School, the installation of cabling and wiring at all elementary and intermediate schools to provide communication infrastructure and theimprovementofroofs andlavatoriesandthe replacementofwindows,mechanical controls and floor tiling where needed, including acquisition and installation of furnishings and equipmentandsitework, and(b)toissue bondsoftheschool districtforsuchpurposes in the principal amount of $11,730,000.

Gina Suriano-Barber BREAKING NEW GROUND…The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison has
broken ground for a new gymnasium to be opened in the spring. The facility will be named the Nancy and Joseph Plumeri Gymnasium for the Scotch Plains residents who donated a generous gift to make the construction possible. The gym will provide facilities for the lower and middle school physical education programs, as well as varsity basketball and volleyball courts. Georgia Tech Alumni Assoc. Awards Jane and Joe Stoner
WESTFIELD — Jane and Joe Stoner were presented awards recently by the Georgia Tech Alumni Association for their leadership roles and volunteer efforts during the past year.
Mr. and Mrs. Stoner were two of only five people across the nation who received the award. They were the first couple ever to be presented the awards.
The alumni award is called the Ramblin’ Wreck Award in honor of the Georgia Tech mascot, a 1920s era antique car.
Mrs. Stoner’s award was the “Best Friend of Georgia Tech” award.
Mr. and Mrs. Stoner Joe serve as Treasurer and Secretary of the New Jersey/New YorkAlumniClub,which has a history of being one of the most active clubs in the country. They have been active in promoting student recruiting efforts, attending college fairs in the fall and recruiting other volunteers.
Theyalsohost a“WelcometoGeorgia Tech” party at their home for incoming Georgia Tech students.
They were presented the award by the national Georgia Tech Alumni Association President Jay MacDonald at a Capital Campaign Kick-Off reception at the Harvard Club in New York City hosted by Georgia Tech President Wayne Clough.
Wardlaw-Hartridge Announces Honor Roll
The Wardlaw-Hartridge School, located inEdison,recentlyannounced its list of students who have achieved the Middle School Honor Roll for the first marking period.
To be named to the Honor Roll, students must have a B-plus average and no grade lower than a B in their academic subjects.
Sixth grade students included: Allison Clancy, Colin Faust, Daniel Forman, and William Kim, all of Westfield; and Matthew Darwin, Sarah Ranney and Craig Torpey, all of Scotch Plains.
Seventh grade students included: David Altszuler and Gopika Barai, both of Westfield.
Eighth grade students included: Milan Patel and Rivya Sodhi, both of Scotch Plains.
Students Raise Money For Hurricane Victims
WESTFIELD – Seventh and eighth grade students from a Spanish class at Roosevelt Intermediate School in Westfield contributed $2,173 to the American Red Cross for victims of the hurricanes in the Caribbean.
The students raised the money by preparing a Hispanic “arroz con frijoles” (rice and beans) dinner for their families. They urged their parents to contribute what they might have spent for an inexpensive meal out to the National Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The students and their Spanish teachers, Lynne Gerber and Christine Cassu, sent a check to Elizabeth Dole at the National Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Summit Nature Club Posts Holiday Meeting
The Summit Nature Club will hold its Christmas meeting on Thursday, December 17, at 7:45 p.m. at the Trailside Science and Nature Center, Watching Reservation at New Providence Road and Colles Avenue in Mountainside.
