County College Offers Classes Via ITV System
For the geographical convenience of students, Union County College will offer 10 credit courses during the Fall Semester via Interactive Television (ITV).
Through this innovative distance learning method of college education, the instructor is located at one of the campuses, where he/she presents a lecture and facilitates class activity with students in the same classroom and those who are at a distant campus — as if they were all in the same room.
Students, in turn, can ask questions and participate in class discussions from remote campuses.
All courses offered over ITV are also available in regular classroom situations.
College officials note that ITV classes are especially helpful to students who work or live in the nearby area of the particular campus where they choose to take the course.
In the event of an employment or family emergency, the individual can go back to his/her destination in less time. Additionally, if a course has low enrollment at each campus, but has enough enrollment combined to run, students can still benefit from taking the course without being closed out.
Through ITV, faculty can enhance their presentations through use of multimedia and other computer-aided teaching tools. And for those who have transportation difficulties, ITV makes the college experience a realistic option.
This year, the College will utilize ITV to share courses with other higher education institutions, such as Passaic County Community College for a Health Information Technology program.
