Mar 11, 2011 - The Westfield Board of Education met on Thursday, March 10, 2011. The meeting was called in response to the prior day’s announcement by the New Jersey Attorney General’s office that charges had been filed against the District’s Business Administrator, Mr. Robert Berman, alleging certain financial improprieties. The Board of Education takes all allegations of financial impropriety very seriously; therefore, Mr. Berman has been suspended from his duties, pending further review by the Board. The Board also takes its fiduciary obligations to the students and taxpayers of Westfield very seriously; therefore, a full review of the District’s contracts and financial records will be undertaken, conducted by an external auditor during the relevant time period set forth in the allegations. The Board has authorized the hiring of an interim business administrator, and until an interim is hired, the Board appointed the Superintendent as Acting Business Administrator. The Board will respect Mr. Berman’s privacy in this matter and will update the public upon resolution of the matter.
