Candidate Bio and Statement: Mark LoGrippo was sworn into office as Third Ward Councilman in July 2011 replacing the vacated seat held by Mark Ciarrocca. He and his wife Maria reside on Tudor Oval along with their two children, Francesco and Gemma. Mark grew up in Lynbrook, Long Island and began his interest in civic duty at an early age. Mark is an avid sports fan and played both High School Varsity baseball and soccer. His interest in politics also started during his upbringing in Long Island where he assisted in local campaigns and fundraising activities. He graduated from St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing in 1990. He joined NYNEX (now Verizon Communications) upon graduation as a customer service representative and spent the next 21 years building business acumen in the telecommunications and network services industry. He received his MBA in International Business from Adelphi University and currently holds the position of a Business Development Manager in the FiOS division of Verizon Communications. Maria, a registered nurse and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Jersey Nurse Scholar, is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from Seton Hall University.
Mark’s commitment to his community and civic duty is evident in his charitable work and volunteer service. Since 2005, Mark has been actively involved in mentoring and fundraising for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of New York City. Since 2006, he has personally raised over $30,000 for the NY Chapter of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. In 2009, Mark became a member of the Westfield Y International Committee and also served as the Mayor’s designee for the Town of Westfield’s Planning Board. Mark and Maria are active members of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield Y and Westfield Republican Party. Mark participates in a career coaching/mentoring program for St. John’s Alumni and is currently a Big Brother to a young teenager in Brooklyn.
In an effort to meet residents of the Third Ward, Mark has been walking the streets and neighborhoods discussing pertinent issues with fellow residents. Fiscal challenges, the economic downturn and public safety are among the top issues voiced by homeowners and voters. Mark graciously accepted this responsibility to serve and looks forward to the opportunity to continue his service as the Third Ward Councilman. As “the voice” for the Third Ward, Mark seeks to address real issues and offer common sense ideas. Involvement in the community is important to Mark and his family, it is Mark’s desire to serve his fellow residents and promote honest government making him the right choice for representing Westfield’s Third Ward.
