Candidate Bio and Statement: frank2011.com
Frank Arena was elected as Councilman for the 1st Ward of Westfield on November 6th, 2007. Frank has lived in Westfield with his wife Lori for over 17 years. They have two children, Christopher and Carli who both attend Westfield High School. His four year term started January 8th, 2008 when he was sworn in to office by Superior Court Judge Douglas Fasciale.
Frank’s responsibilities on the Town Council include:
    • Chairman of the Public Works Committee
    • Vice-Chair of Code Review and Town Property Committee
    • Served as the Mayor’s designee to the Downtown Westfield Corporation (DWC)
    • Served as member of the Public Safety, Transportation & Parking Committee
    • Currently the Mayor’s designee of the Westfield Recreation Commission.
First and foremost, Frank believes it has been an honor and privilege to serve the people of Westfield. He believes that he is an elected official that the people of Westfield trust with openness and honesty second to none.
During his time on the Council he has worked closely with The Mayor and Council passing budgets that have year in and year out lowered operating expenses. As a member of the DWC he has the lead voice in keeping their budget flat for 5 years and as the Chair of the Public Works committee he spearheaded efforts to bring further efficiencies to our snow plowing efforts. Additionally, as the Public Works Chair, Frank has worked with the town professionals and Public Works Committee which has led to implementation of a capital project to pave and repair 7 miles of streets in our town.
If re-elected he will continue to develop public/private partnerships to maintain and improve town parks, playing fields and other public property while continuing to downsize government and streamline municipal staff to do more with less. He will also, leverage grants from The County, State, etc.
Frank believes that one of the key issue outside of finances facing the town is pedestrian safety. He believes we can Improve pedestrian safety by, among other things, educating drivers about driving more slowly through neighborhoods and sharing the road with bicyclists and joggers. And no texting while driving!!! Please!
Lastly, as your Councilman, Frank will continue to work closely with DPW (through Public Works Committee), the DWC and WPD to ensure that downtown remains an attractive and safe destination for diners and shoppers. This will help keep Westfield one of the best family-friendly towns in New Jersey as well as one of the best places to live in the country.
