Candidate Bio and Statement: Linda Carter is a lifelong citizen of the city of Plainfield. She is the youngest of her siblings. She graduated from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore where she earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science degree in Information Management from Steven’s Institute of Technology in Hoboken NJ. Currently she is employed by the Passaic Board of Education as a High School Business Education Teacher. She served as the Head Cheerleading Coach at Passaic High School. She currently serves as Councilwoman at large of the 1st and 4th wards in the city of Plainfield – serving her 3rd year of her second term. She has held the position of Council President and Chair of the Committee of the whole (for 3yrs). Linda serves as the liaison for the City Council to the Housing Authority, Board of Education and chairs the neighborhood and city services committee. She has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for over 25 years. She has served in many leadership positions within the Sorority over the years and is currently serving as the President of the Plainfield Chapter for a 4th term. She has received numerous awards for her leadership because of her professional accomplishments and community involvement including The New Jersey Minority Achievers Award and the Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Greater Union County Chapter Community Leaders hall of fame award. She has served on the Plainfield Teen Parenting Board and is associated with volunteer work with the YMCA for over 16 years. In addition she has been a mentor, a Big Sister volunteer, feeding the homeless volunteer and co-chair of the National Night out committee for the past four years. Her focus has been on assisting the most vulnerable in our society: young people and senior citizens. Prior to going into teaching Linda worked for AT&T in Access Management of the CFO Division. She worked with Business units to deliver results of Actual spending versus budget spending. Handled 10B Budget Monthly reporting. Also, worked for AT &T Credit Communication Systems as Portfolio Asset Manager handling end to end leasing for clients within the Eastern Region. She is also a member of the NJ Board of Realtors.
