The Governor Took the First Step In the Tremendous Battle Ahead...New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, on
Tuesday, took the first step in Trenton toward dealing with the fiscal crisis in the state. We must give him
credit. He proposed a budget that does not increase from last year. Still, he and most others know the
problem is not solved with his proposal. The next several months will involve a tremendous battle -
unfortunate, but necessary for us to right ourselves.

Kudos to County Clerk for Discovering Error in Presidential Primary Results...Union County Clerk Joanne
Rajoppi was double-checking election results from the February 5, New Jersey Presidential Primary when she
kept coming up with errors on a handful of machines. The results between the machine cartridges and the
paper backups showed discrepancies.

CALLING FOR HELP...William Mariani and a young neighbor were out early last Friday, clearing the sidewalk in
front of Rossi Funeral Home on Westfield Avenue in Scotch Plains. The first real snow of the winter resulted
in the closing of area schools and provided a fun playground for children.

Reform Thought: Now that Governor Jon Corzine has set an example by actually reducing spending by $500 million from last
year, it is now time for our local school boards, municipal, and county governments to follow
suit. See
