Professional
Background: Rose
was a business teacher in the North Plainfield Adult School and a
substitute teacher at North Plainfield High School. She also worked as a
guidance counselor and business teacher in the Elizabeth Public School
System. She entered public service in 1977 and has served on multiple
municipal, county and state boards.
Education:
Rose has a Master's Degree in Schools Administration from
Rutgers University. She earned her Bachelor of
Science degree in business
from Rider College, and she also studied
at Seton Hall University and the University of Tennessee.
Family
Life: Rose is a lifelong
resident of North Plainfield. She is the widow of John
McConnell; they have four children - John, Patricia, Kevin
and James - and four grandchildren.
Elected
Experience:
Rose served on the Somerset County Board of Chosen
Freeholders from 1990-1999; she was the director
from 1994 to 1997. She served on the Somerset County
Planning Board from 1991 to 1992 and was an alternate from
1993 to 1995. She was a member of the North Plainfield
Borough Council from 1977 to 1990 and was its president in
1983. Clubs
and Organizations: Rose
has served on the Somerset County Council on Affordable
Housing (COHA) board of directors and the Somerset County
Family Counseling Services board of directors since 1992
and the Somerset County Medical Center board of trustees
since 1991. She has been on the Somerset County Governing
Officials Association since 1985; she was its president in
1986. She serves on the Somerset Public
Employees Charitable Campaign and was its chair from 1993
to 1994. She sits on the New Jersey
Advisory Commission on the Status of Women (she sat on
Somerset County's commission from 1994 to 1997), the
Somerset County Park Commission, the county's board of
social services, the county's advisory council to the
Office on Aging, the county's youth services commission
and the county's liquor- and alcohol-abuse council. She
is a member of New Jersey Women in Municipal Government,
and she sat on the New Jersey Elected Women Officials
Board in 1993. She is a member of both the
New Jersey and Somerset Federation of Republican Women.
She sits on the Heritage Trail Association's board of
directors and is a member of the Friends of Vermeule
Preservation of Revolutionary Historic Sites. She
is a trustee in the North Plainfield Republican Club and a
member of the North Plainfield Community Center committee
and the Somerset Alliance for Future. She is in the
Catholic Women's Club of the Plainfields, and she served
on the Somerset Council Tercentenary
Committee in 1998. She
is a member of the alumni associations at both Rutgers
University and Rider College. She
has received multiple awards for her work in public
service. Major
Campaign Issues:
Rose is focused on taxes, taxes and taxes. She believes New Jersey's
property taxes are "breaking the backs" of families in the
state. As a senior citizen, she has seen people who have worked in
New Jersey their whole lives but have to move out of the state because
of high taxes.
She wants to break the "business
as usual" attitude in Trenton.
