Information
Professional Background:
The candidate serves the County of Union as the Sheriff
and has done so for 30 years - the longest running
Sheriff in the history of the State of New Jersey. A
career law enforcement officer, he was a member of the
Elizabeth Police Department for almost 20 years,
attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He has received
numerous commendations throughout his lifetime,
including the New Jersey PBA Valor Award, Policeman of
the Year and the Elizabeth Police Merit Awards.
Education:
A 1975 graduate of Kean College, he attended the
Northwestern University Traffic Institute in 1968 and is
a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Honor
Society. Also attended the FBI Academy and other law
enforcement institutions, where has received numerous
law enforcement certifications.
Family Life:
He and his wife Marlene live in Union and have five
children.
Governmental Experience:
Sheriff Froehlich developed at least seven programs,
which garnered national attention, some of which have
also been adopted and used internationally, including
his Fingerprint program, Play-It-Safe booklet and video,
and gun safety programs for children. The Sheriff’s
Labor Assistance Program (SLAP) has
saved county taxpayers more
than $16.3 million over the past ten years. The
Sheriff's Office implemented a Municipal Transportation
Program several years ago in an effort to relieve
Municipal Police Departments from the burden of
transporting their prisoners to and from the Jail,
keeping more police on patrol. |
