Background: Ms. Scurry worked in retail for more than 35 years, serving as an assistant buyer for Franklin Simon, NYC, and retiring as a Macy's executive.
She has also been an event planner.
Education:
The candidate is a graduate of Westfield High School, Traphegan School of Fashion and Design and F.I.T. in New York City. She has also taken classes in social work at Rutgers.
Family
Life: Ms. Scurry has lived in Westfield for more than 60 years. She has a daughter,
Da'Shawn, a son-in-law, Ainsley, and two granddaughters,
Olivia and Mya Reynolds.

Experience:
The candidate sits on the Board of Human Services as a mayor appointee and serves as the board's chair.
Clubs
and Organizations: Ms. Scurry serves as chair for
Westfield Human Services. She is a member of St. John's Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, where she serves on the Scholarship Committee. She is also Regional District Director of Soroptimist International of America, overseeing
15 clubs. Soroptimist is a worldwide (120 counties) organization for women in management and professions working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women.
She is a former member of the Westfield School's Strategic Action Plan
Committee, the Westfield/Mountainside Ministerium. She is
a former on-air chairperson of the Lou Rawls Telethon for the United Negro College Fund. Mentor.
She is the treasurer of the Union County Women's Political
Caucus, a member of the Paul Robeson Centennial Committee,
and a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Committeeperson for 38 years.
She is a former member of the Westfield/Mountainside
Ministerium.
The candidate, a highly esteemed member of her community, received the 2000 "Women of Excellence" Award in the Volunteerism category from the Union County Commission on the Status of Women.
