Professional
Background: Mr. Regenstreich
taught elementary school while attending law school. He is
an assistant district attorney and senior trial assistant
in the Brooklyn Homicide Bureau, and he is a founding
partner of a law firm with a multi-state practice in New
Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. He is an adjunct
professor at St. Francis College and at William Paterson University,
and he is a volunteer law professor at a New York penal
institution
for women.
Education:
Mr. Regenstreich graduated from Brooklyn College with a major in
education; he later graduated from St. John's University Law School.
Family
Life: The candidate's wife,
Merry, is a learning-disability specialist with a private
tutoring practice. They have three children - Jennifer, a
Boston University graduate, Andrew, a Northeastern
University graduate, and Alex, a senior at Syracuse
University.
Government
Experience:
Mr. Regenstreich has been a candidate for the Westfield Board of Education.
He was a delegate at the 2004 Democratic Presidential Convention. He has
served on the boards of directors for both Nostrum Laboratories Incorporated
and a co-op apartment complex with thousands of residents.
Clubs
and Organizations: Mr. Regenstreich has been the president of the
Westfield High School Association and the coach of a young girls basketball team
and a summer recreation boys hockey team.
Major
Campaign Issues:
a. Taxes - Over the last several years, they have continued to increase
without any sign of abating.
b. Accessibility - As I speak to more and more of the people in the
second ward, I
get the feeling that their elected representatives are not listening to
their concerns.
c. The future of Westfield - McMansions, public roads, safety and the
direction of the downtown retail area are all
issues that need to be addressed.
