Candidate Information

Professional Background: Mr. Regenstreich taught elementary school while attending law school. He is an assistant district attorney and senior trial assistant in the Brooklyn Homicide Bureau, and he is a founding partner of a law firm with a multi-state practice in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. He is an adjunct professor at St. Francis College and at William Paterson University, and he is a volunteer law professor at a New York penal institution for women.

Education: Mr. Regenstreich graduated from Brooklyn College with a major in education; he later graduated from St. John's University Law School.

Family Life: The candidate's wife, Merry, is a learning-disability specialist with a private tutoring practice. They have three children - Jennifer, a Boston University graduate, Andrew, a Northeastern University graduate, and Alex, a senior at Syracuse University.

Government Experience: Mr. Regenstreich has been a candidate for the Westfield Board of Education. He was a delegate at the 2004 Democratic Presidential Convention. He has served on the boards of directors for both Nostrum Laboratories Incorporated and a co-op apartment complex with thousands of residents.

Clubs and Organizations: Mr. Regenstreich has been the president of the Westfield High School Association and the coach of a young girls basketball team and a summer recreation boys hockey team.

Major Campaign Issues:
a. Taxes - Over the last several years, they have continued to increase without any sign of abating.

b. Accessibility - As I speak to more and more of the people in the second ward, I get the feeling that their elected representatives are not listening to their concerns.

c. The future of Westfield - McMansions, public roads, safety and the direction of the downtown retail area are all issues that need to be addressed.
