Hometown: Plainfield
Professional Background: Mr. Mapp is the
chief financial officer for the Borough of Roselle. He is a certified public accountant.
Education: Mr. Mapp holds an M.B.A. in International Business from Fairleigh Dickinson
University and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Rutgers University.
Family Life: Mr. Mapp is married to his high-school
sweetheart, Amelia Mapp. The couple has two daughters -
Ayisha, a sophomore at Howard University in Washington,
D.C., and Shermona, an attorney at law.
Government Experience: An incumbent Union County
freeholder, Mr. Mapp had been the president of the Plainfield City Council,
on which he served for seven years. He was the
council’s liaison to the Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority and served as chairman of the Finance Committee and liaison to the Board of Education.
Mr. Mapp also served on the Cable Advisory Committee, the Plainfield Redevelopment
Authority and the board of directors of the Plainfield Health
Center.
Clubs and Organizations:
The candidate is the president
of the Plainfield New Democrats, a trustee on the Raritan
Valley Coalition and the finance-committee chair of the
Green Brook Flood Control Commission. He is a member of
the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and
the Frontiers International Plainfield Area Club. He is a
member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the president of
the Combined Islands Cricket Club.
