Jersey City.

Governmental
Experience:
Mr. Menendez took over his Senate seat from John Corzine in January 2006
after Mr. Corzine took office as governor of New Jersey. The candidate
currently serves on three Congressional committees: the Senate Budget
Committee, the Senate Energy Committee and the Banking, Housing and
Urban Affairs Committee. Before taking over in the Senate, Menendez
served in the House of Representatives from 1992 to 2006. The candidate
also served in the New Jersey Legislature, working in the New Jersey
Senate from 1991 to 1993 and prior to that, in the General Assembly from
1987 to 1991. During his time in the New Jersey Legislature, Menendez
also held the mayoral position in Union City from 1986 to 1992. His
first taste of public office came in 1974 when he was elected to the
Union City Board of Education, a position he held until 1978.
