Background: Mrs. Scanlon works as a
paralegal specializing in family law.
Family
Life: The candidate and her husband Patrick, a former mayor of Union
Township live in Union. They have three children and five grandchildren.
Governmental
Experience: In 2003, the candidate was re-elected to her third term
as freeholder. As chairwoman of the Board, Mrs. Scanlon oversaw the
creation of the Committee on Homeland Security. She also implemented the
Preserve Union County program, which aims to preserve historic and
architectural sites in Union County.
Prior to her election to the Board of Freeholders, Mrs. Scanlon
served on the Union Township Board of Education. While on the school
board, she served as Finance Chair, representative to the Union Township
Committee and liaison to the Union County School Boards Association.
Clubs
and Organizations: The candidate is a member of the Union County St.
Patrick’s Day Committee and was named Irish-American Citizen of the
Year in 1995. Additionally, she is a founding member of the
Irish-American Society of Union. Mrs. Scanlon is involved in the civic
associations in both Union Township and Connecticut Farms.
