Professional
Background: Mr. Holmes worked in
law enforcement for almost 30 years, serving as a police officer and
retiring as a detective after 29 years. He currently works as a private
investigator and serves as owner and president of Holmes Security and
Investigations, located in Rahway.
Education:
The candidate is a graduate of Rahway High School and took classes in
criminal justice at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, Essex County
College and Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
Family
Life: Mr. Holmes lives in Rahway and is the father of seven
children.
Governmental
Experience: The candidate was re-elected to a third term as
freeholder in 2003. Mr. Holmes serves on Union County’s Homeland
Security Committee, which oversees emergency and security preparations.
He also works on the Economic Development Committee and Fiscal Affairs
Committee and is the Chairman of the Union County Families
First Funding Committee. Before he was elected to the Board of
Freeholders, he served as Rahway City Councilman from 1989 to 1997.
Clubs
and Organizations: Mr. Holmes is actively involved at the Rahway
Friendship Baptist Church, where he has served as a trustee for 30 years
and a chairman of the board for several years. The candidate has also
coached the church’s basketball team. He is a lifetime member of the
NAACP’s Rahway chapter and has been honored by the organization for his
work in the surrounding area.
