Local School Budgets Pass as Many Fail Across State


TAKING THE GOSPEL TO THE STREETS...Timothy Burke stands in public for what he calls ‘Gospel Theatre for the Streets’ in Westfield at the north-side train station parking lot on Monday. He has been carrying a cross on his own for the last several days to symbolize the story of Jesus during Easter.

EASTER EGG HUNT…Youngsters gathered last Saturday to search for 1,200 Easter eggs at Mindowaskin Park. The  Westfield Lions Club has sponsored a hunt since 1936

HONORING THE FALLEN...More than 2,000 firefighters attended the funeral service of Franklin Township volunteer firefighter Kevin Apuzzio at St. Michael’s Church in Union Township. Mr. Apuzzio was killed in the line of duty last week.

Abbott Schools (failed school districts) in New Jersey are controlled by board members elected by a dismally low number of voters, yet the boards control hundreds of millions of dollars given to them by taxpayers of the other districts in the state. Widespread abuse of this money is reported. How can this matter be corrected? The failed systems in Union County (Elizabeth and Plainfield, Abbott schools) and the state had dismal voter turnouts. Elizabeth, a town of 120,000 people (four times the population of Westfield), had only about 1,700 people voting. Plainfield, with a population of about 50,000, had only a little more than a thousand people voting. This is dreadful. See the top money list here. The School Money List Top Receivers.
