single over short. A dropped ball on a routine infield out allowed Logan to score. The inning ended with a line out to short followed by a flick to second for a double play.
More crumbling occurred in the bottom of the fourth as the St. Toms jumped their lead to 164. McGall thumped a triple to deep center and DeFrancesco added another RBI sacrifice fly. Brennan bashed a double to left, then Shea made the first of his
brilliant diving plays to record an out. Matuska walked, Rivera rattled an RBI single and Chupko slammed a tworun single to left. Shea ended the inning with his second great diving play.
Ulichny sizzled a double to left in the fifth and Engleman followed with a single. Now, third baseman Chupko did his thing! Threestraight grounders, although Ulichny scored on the first, were masterfully grabbed and relayed to second for force plays.
In the bottom of the sixth, St. Thomas added its final two runs, beginning with a solo bomb by Brennan. Hobble tapped a single to center, Matuska walked and Rivera rapped an RBI single to right. Shea ended the inning with another marvelous diving grab.
Shea sashayed to the plate and hacked a single to left. Ulichny slashed a single to center and Engleman picked up his fourth RBI with a tworun single to center. However, a fly out to center and a ground out to “Brooks” Chupko silenced St. Paul.

team. They are just regular students. I want to help raise the kids’ self esteem. With all the problems that we have in society and in our schools, these kids need somebody whom they can look up to and emulate.”
Davis noted that coach Torok is just that type of person who would be the roll model.
Ms. Marquis played on the first U. S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and came home with a Silver Medal.
“At that time, we never had a history of women’s basketball and there had been a long history of men’s basketball in the Olympics,” said Marquis. “We were happy to be there and I was just happy to make the team. But when the coach said that we had an opportunity to place, we really kicked it in. All of us!”
Marquis added, “And when we played Czechoslovakia in the final game, we came from behind to beat
them by 14 points and to get the silver medal behind the Russians who took first.”
Continuing, Davis mentioned that “the Olympic Committee in Colorado asked us to get pictures to them so they can publicize them. Because, New York is trying to get the 2012 Oylmpics.”
Also, “We have several Olympians involved with our organization. And my job is to put everything together and make it work. And, along with the community service, promote the true ideals of the Olympics.”
Asked by coach Torok what his most memorable experience at the Olympics was, Davis responded, “When they played the national anthem. I just wanted to freeze that moment in time.”
Mr. Davis will get his pictures.

Union County Senior 50+ Softball League Results:
Jon Regenye had an RBI sacrifice. Westfield jumped its lead to 92 in the fifth. Ben Koket scored on an error, Ludman reached first safely, McKeon singled and Mike Sofka slapped a tworun single.
Later, in the sixth, Westfield’s Mike Duelks drilled a twoRBI single to put the game on ice.
Following the game, Westfield coach Anthony Picaro said, “We looked at Berkeley Heights pitcher Andrew Gropper as a potential AllState candidate. We used him as our gauge, the little things that we need to concentrate on and execute. Today we were very content with our play, playing seven innings while committing just one error, so we look like we are really started to work well together as a team.”
