Atlantic Arsenal U12 Enjoys Successful Basketball Year
The Atlantic Arsenal U12 AAU basketball team has been enjoying a successful second season. The Westfieldbased team recently won the Sharpshooters Tournament in Wayne and the players chosen are a collection of some of the best talent within the area. Each player also participates in other spring sports, in addition to continuing their growth in basketball.
The Arsenal returned all five starters from last year’s squad: Tommy Bonard and Nick DeRosa from Westfield, Matt Palumbo from Stirling, Matt Bashaw from Cranford, and Bobby Dunn from Garwood.
The Arsenal will be playing in the AAU National Invitational Championship held at the Wide World of Sports in Disney World at the end of June and
early July. The team qualified for the Nationals by winning sixstraight games in the New Jersey AAU State Tournament and receiving a semifinal bid.
The strength of the Atlantic Arsenal is their depth. In addition to the returning players from last season, the team added several key members: Michael Venezia from Westfield, Chris Brown from Cranford, Domenique Price from Scotch Plains, Nick Nolan from Linden, Brian Polt from Colonia, Manny Estrada from Elizabeth and Dylan Palumbo from Stirling.
Each player has contributed to the success of this season’ team. The Arsenal has learned to play unselfish basketball in order to benefit the team. Their improvement over last season has been exponential.

James Wheeler drove in Viglianti and Matt Tenzer with a bases loaded single, and Joe Sette collected two hits. Viglianti and Andrew Barry continued to stroke the ball against the Red Sox as they collected one and two hits, respectively.
Neil Merchant and Thomas Reade were the Braves most effective pitchers for the week as they came in and helped stop their opponents offensive attack. Joseph Del Prete, Chris DeCarlo, Danny Michalak and Gailmarie Sprague all played well in the outfield while Jorge Cruz, Paul Longson and Sean Dolgin turned in a solid performance in the infield.
