Town Bank Assets Nearly Tripled Over Past Year
WESTFIELD — Completing its second year in operation, the Town Bank of Westfield has announced that its total assets nearly tripled over the past year.
Total assets were $36,392,000 as of December 31 compared with $13,936,000 at the conclusion of 1998 for an increase of $22,456,000. The financial institution opened its doors in the fall of 1997 in the former Plaster Palace building on South Avenue at the Westfield traffic circle.
Total deposits rose by $23,577,000 from $7,822,000 a year ago to $31,399,000 as of the end of 1999.
Outstanding loans were up by $10,608,000 to $11,785,000.
“We are very pleased with the performance of the bank to date,” Nick Frungillo, Town Bank Vice President, told The Westfield Leader
and The Times of Scotch Plains and Fanwood.
The Town Bank is currently await ing regulatory approval from the
state’s Department of Banking to open its first branch office at 44 Elm Street, the former home of the now defunct Rorden Realty. The bank gained Federal Deposit Insurance Company (FDIC) approval last month.

The Times that bank officials are anticipating a much better performance next year when the bank gains additional deposit and loan business through its new downtown branch.
“We are excited about our anticipated expansion, which will continue to augment the growth of the bank and provide additional deposit and lending opportunities,” said Ronald J. Frigerio, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Town Bank, in a statement released by bank officials.
The Town Bank is the first independent bank in Westfield in over 70 years.
